One resident of Kazakhstan drinks 6 cups of tea a day

Mar 29 2013

To date, the Kazakh tea market "contains" 24.5 million kilograms per year, while the people of Kazakhstan themselves have taken the ranks of the leaders in tea consumption on a global scale and are the main consumers of tea products among the CIS countries.

According to statistics, 1.45 kilograms of tea is consumed per inhabitant of Kazakhstan per year, which is from five to six cups a day!

And, despite this, the Kazakh tea market is not growing, but its structure is diligently changing. So lately, in the period from 2003 to 2011, the segment of expensive tea has increased significantly, while its inexpensive “brother” has decreased. And if the average cost of tea used to be 797 tenge, today it has increased to 1786!

It also became known that the Kazakhs began to give greater preference to tea bags, the share of which has increased from three to as much as eleven percent over the past ten years. It is noted that the use of Kenyan tea, a popular Indian “substitute” for tea, is actively growing.

According to Shakir Khusain, representative of the Tea Council of India, Russia and Kazakhstan are the largest importers of tea products among the CIS countries.
