Despite the "explosive" name, gunpowder tea (Gunpowder, Gunpowder), of course, is not made from gunpowder. This tea was named so because its twisted leaves really look like gunpowder. It is one of the most famous Chinese green teas. The tea is curled so tightly that it stays fresh for a long time. Also this tea is called Pearl tea.
Characteristics of gunpowder tea
Gunpowder is a variety of green tea with a bright, full flavor commonly described as honey. It usually has a smoky taste and a slight coppery aftertaste. Some Gunpowder teas are herbal, some are mint or even peppery. When brewed, the tea has a yellowish infusion.
Origin and manufacture
Gunpowder was first made in Pingshui, Zheilin Province, China.
The most important tea-producing area of Gunpowder, Pingshu is a small town located in the southeast of Chaoxin City, Zheilin Province. In the past, the local factories in Pingshu took dried leaves from neighboring regions as soon as they dried, finished the process and exported the tea abroad. This tea has gained worldwide recognition and many now call Pingshu "the house of the Green Gunpowder".
According to historical records, between 1843 and 1894, the export of this tea peaked, it reached 200,000 dan per year (1 dan = 50) kg, and the unit price of this tea in London was second only to Yu Wu Oolong, which was the most beloved tea in Europe. while.
Now, the area of gunpowder production has increased towards the southeast of China, although Zhenlin province is still the largest production area, including the mountainous regions of Kuzhi, Ximin, Tiantai, Shaoxin, Xiaoshan, Shanggu, Fenhua and Dong'an.
How to brew gunpowder tea
Ideally, Gunpowder should be drunk from glass or china. Both the cup and teapot must be doused with hot water before cooking. Since the tea leaves will open in the water during brewing, you need to know exactly how much tea is required for brewing. Usually 150 ml of water is used for one or two spoons of Gunpowder.
The best temperature for brewing is between 70 and 80 degrees Celsius. For the first and second brews, brew for one minute. Gradually increase the time for subsequent brews.
Gunpowder is drunk without adding milk. But there are other ways to consume this tea.
