Today it is even strange to imagine that there were once such times when there were no kettles. But many brilliant ancient civilizations did not know this invention. How good that we have it and makes it possible to enjoy fragrant tea!
Now at the service of people there are teapots from all kinds of materials, very different designs and characteristics. This subject has firmly and inevitably entered everyday life. Like many other things, teaware was first developed in China, more specifically, four centuries before our era.
The earliest teapots were quite inelegant, molded from red clay, which retained their aroma for an exceptionally long time. A little later, when they mastered the smelting of cast iron, they began to use it. The main advantages of cast iron kettles are fast heating and excellent heat saving.
After the discovery of porcelain, cast iron, however, fades into the background and becomes ... a luxury item. The advantage of porcelain was that, like early clay, it perfectly retained the aroma, but at the same time, aesthetically, the dishes made from it were much more perfect. It was at this stage in the development of tea utensils that it was recognized in Europe.
Her attempts to do something similar led to some products like from the same material, but much rougher and much less elegant. It was only in the eighteenth century that skill was leveled. A little later, the phenomenon of a silver teapot appears - but their mass, very powerful heating, spoiling the drink, and of course high prices did not allow them to become massive. The acquaintance of the inhabitants of Russia with tea utensils dates back approximately to the seventeenth century, that is, it is inextricably linked with the establishment of contacts in the east of Asia.
Metal kettles in today's Europe are used mainly in catering, but not in homes. Extremely popular, of course, are electrically heated appliances. They can even be enabled by SMS or call. Comfort to say the least.
But despite all the convenience provided by modern high-tech appliances, true connoisseurs of good tea will no doubt give the palm to timeless porcelain classics. Nevertheless, no matter how your kettle looks, whatever its shape and capacity, whatever new technical achievements are applied in its design, it will forever remain an integral attribute of any personal kitchen, cafe, restaurant and canteen.
