Tangxi tea, also known as Tunlu tea (Tunlu, Twankay) is one of the best quality green teas that are made in China. Tanksy cannot be called "green gold". Together with Keemun tea, which also grows nearby in the Huanshan region, these two teas are referred to as Red Keemun and Green Tangxi.
Due to its excellent taste and aroma, Tuankan (Tangxi) tea became world famous by the 7th century, and was already widely exported at the beginning of the 16th century. This tea is valued for four important characteristics: green color, clear decoction, juicy taste and long aftertaste.
The finished Tongglu is slightly rolled into a shape resembling an eyebrow. Its outstanding appearance has given its various varieties many names: Fine Eyebrow, Award, Needle, First Rain, Eyebrow, Green Snowflake.
Tongglu tea classification
Tangxi can be divided into two categories: kiln-dried tea leaves ("roasted green") and pan-dried tea. Also, when drying tea, a wok (without oil) is used, and such tea is called fire-roasted. Roasting on a baking sheet takes up the most moisture, and the tea has a brighter, but not bitter, taste (many say this is what gives the tea its nutty flavor).
The collection standard for Tangxi tea is one bud with one, two or three leaves, which determines the final quality of the tea. Each variety named above has at least five categories (levels). Tea has a different appearance depending on the category, but all of them are particularly juicy.
Growing area
The area of production of Tunksi also includes all the territories adjacent to Tunksi. Since all these teas from other areas were packaged here and sent abroad from here, they are all called Tunxi green tea. Surrounded by high mountains, the Tunxi area is the first stop on the way to Yellow Mountain, a picturesque resort that was inscribed on the UNESCO Natural and Cultural Heritage list in 1990.
Tea grows on hillsides at an altitude of 100 to 600 meters. The fertile yellow earth, abundant rainfall, comfortable temperature provide ideal conditions for growing high quality tea.
Since the founding of the People's Republic of China, the Tongxi area has become an urbanized area where the Huashan provincial government is located. Modern references to Tongxi tea refer to all tea produced in Shi and Xilin counties. The Xilin area is also part of the Golden Triangle of Chinese green teas. According to many experts, Tunxi green tea is a premium tea.
